13.2 Luciano outside work moments

"For him family and work were always in first place. In life he developed many initiatives which, one after another, proved to be winning. His masterpiece was his company which – it should always be remembered – he started with so much belief and willpower. But then he had his passions: he liked the mountains and their environments, he loved going fishing and in this he involved me systematically. For him it was a pleasure spending the night in a refuge at high altitude and waking up in the morning with a clear sky and the ibexes grazing a short distance away."

And how did he see the kitchen?

"My grandfather had an exaggerated passion for the kitchen, in particular for traditional cuisine. But he did not stop at known dishes. He appreciated discovering new proposals, perhaps based on the fusion of ingredients from here and from outside. For this reason he involved me in going to try some new restaurant. Sometimes he went with me, other times with my sister Alessia. Or even with both of us."

And from a cultural and sporting point of view?

"He loved various genres of music, from classical to light music with a particular predilection for Celentano. He took us with enthusiasm to the Arena di Verona for concerts during the summer. And then, as for sport, he had cycling in his blood, even if in recent times his passion for tennis and Formula One had also begun."

Any regret or nostalgia?

"The greatest regret is that he left too soon. Now he could have begun to reap the results of his work. Perhaps rest on his oars a bit and let himself be carried by the current, continuing on the one hand to act as a supervisor to his collaborators and, on the other, to collect the right recognition for the great work done throughout his life. Fate did not want it and so regret and nostalgia for what could have been and instead was not remain in us."
