In the family of Luciano Sandrone, Stefano is the youngest, having been
born in the 2000s, precisely in 2001. Young yes, but rich in
passions and interests, which at
times go beyond the family business. The
kitchen is a space to which he has
devoted time and creativity. The same attitudes he would like to dedicate to the
creation of
something new to perhaps accompany the wines of Casa Sandrone.
I know that you have a dream in the drawer: to realise two or three new projects that could
further characterise the company, bringing another imprint linked to the territory of
Barolo and Langa. You would like to begin producing your own Barolo Chinato.
In your opinion, what would your grandfather have said about it?
"I think that, faced with my Barolo Chinato project, my grandfather would have been
pleased,
certainly curious. I know that in the past he had tried to make it,
especially in the second
half of the Seventies, but then he had shelved the idea. He spoke to me more than once of his
experience with Barolo Chinato when he worked at Giacomo Borgogno and at Marchesi di
Barolo".
In your opinion, was his interest only nostalgia for the past or was there something more?
"I believe there was something more, because we tasted current Barolo Chinatos with him on various occasions. But he was not thinking so much of the characteristics of the finished product, but rather of the base wine. Indeed, more than once he reiterated his willingness to use even a Barolo with an Additional Geographical Mention as the base wine, such was his desire to exalt its quality".
And how do you see it?
"I have the same objective. I am not interested in making just any Barolo Chinato.
I would like to produce one of quality and prestige, exalting its pleasurability and
bringing our traditions back to the world of today. Perhaps trying to bring back to the
label the reference to the Mention and the vintage. If I managed it, I firmly believe
my grandfather would be proud of it".
