Born in Cuneo in 1950, after an adolescence spent with her family in Murazzano, in Alta Langa, in April 1966 Mariuccia arrived in Barolo as a domestic helper in the home of Cav. Cesare Borgogno. Luciano worked in the same family's cellar and, therefore, the meeting between the two young people was almost natural. The step from friendship to a deeper feeling was easy and so Mariuccia and Luciano fell in love with each other. On 20 April 1969 the relationship was consummated in marriage.
When young, Luciano was very reserved, perhaps even a little shy, and this made him appear withdrawn. It was an attitude that disconcerted people and gave the impression that he was a difficult person to involve.

On the subject of sport: one could not say that Luciano had particular preferences. He was not a fan of any particular team, but – if the occasion arose – he would happily watch a football match on television or, even better, the stages of the Giro d'Italia.
Luciano's life was studded with many pleasant moments, many occasions that moved him.
At home, Luciano was "allergic and intolerant" to domestic chores. He loved hospitality, the warmth of the table, he enjoyed celebrating occasions, being with loved ones, all together.
