Analyzing the production, even current, of Casa Sandrone, many wonder why so few wines are produced and why there is not even a white wine among them.
“The answer is simple: Luciano wanted to produce the wines that he liked. He never
made wines to please others. He never believed in the exasperation of the
barrique. He always favored 500-liter unroasted tonneaux because they were closer to the
tradition and style of Langa. And, then, he was the first to set aside a part of
his annual production of Nebbiolo-based wines to refine them more and place them on the market
after a longer time. By creating the “SIBI ET PAUCIS” brand, he accepted the idea of
giving up a share of immediate turnover to plan a more gradual distribution linked to the time that
passes and attributes greater completeness. Luciano not only sought to produce wines that
know how to withstand time, but he wanted to show that his wines – fruit
of the Langa production reality – have great longevity. And he always did it in his reserved style,
without boasting, without making a fuss. He always preferred action to proclamations.”
I imagine there are many aspects of your father that you miss now...
“I miss everything about Luciano, my father and entrepreneur. I even miss his silences alongside his measured words. He was never a flood of words. He preferred concreteness. It was the same when his illness arrived, which he faced with lucidity, dignity and calmness.”
In his own way he knew how to make up for things and give us moments of warmth and humanity. I have many memories in this regard. In particular, I gladly return to 1978: I had had a bad accident.
For Luciano it was a great satisfaction, but in the meantime there were still other steps.
