5.4 The solitary walker

Whether it was his nature as a “solitary walker”, or his desire to test himself and face new challenges every day, it must be recognized that from the time he began to plan his company – even while being involved in this associate group and while revealing himself to be convinced of the merit of that project – Luciano always maintained his style, which was in some ways “reserved.”
Thus, working hard daily and in a very lucid manner, little by little he carved out his space, created his identity, with the aim of helping his company undertake a solid and authoritative path.
Like other producers, Luciano had his project within him, the result of his sensitivity, of his way of conceiving life and business: thanks to this way of being and acting, Luciano, step by step, identified his path and undertook it for the sole purpose of enhancing his expectations of identity, image and production philosophy.
With his being a “solitary walker” he certainly did not want to deny the steps taken with others, but only to respond to that need for his own privileged space, in search of his identity and qualification.
“Above all,” – Luciano underlines – “I liked the idea that my wines were sold only in very selected places, so that market and production could find the right synergy to strengthen the identity and image of my company.”
As often happens, even at the Sandrone home, within a few years the production structure gradually consolidated, requirements multiplied and perspectives became increasingly stimulating. In the family, the need for new collaborations on the market and promotion front for their identity was felt. They realized they did not have the necessary professional skills at home, nor the training useful for organizing a market adequate to the characters the company was meanwhile outlining. The vineyards were growing, the numbers of each individual wine were increasing more than the labels.
Therefore, after having conducted in-depth research work, in the early 2000s Luciano found the professional collaboration that suited him and that would in perspective respond to his desires for growth, orienting the company to traverse the world's markets in an authoritative manner.
“I believe it was great luck for me,” – Luciano confesses – “to meet a professional like Franco Vincitori and, above all, that he agreed to work with our company. I had known him for a long time, I knew he was a very professional market operator and above all that he was endowed with great qualitative sensitivity. At first, I didn't even dare to think that a man of such value and experience and with the great results achieved everywhere he had worked could agree to collaborate with us. Instead... Sometimes reality surprises you and surpasses fantasy...”
Franco Vincitori was from San Vincenzo al Mare, on the coast of the province of Livorno. His last professional commitment had been at Tenuta Ornellaia, in the heart of Tuscany. Having reached retirement age, it was he who proposed himself, giving Luciano full availability to collaborate with him to make the company grow further and in a targeted way. At the very beginning, Luciano didn't believe it. Then, he understood that Franco was serious and so they shared a journey of great satisfaction that continued for about ten years. And they were strategic, fundamental years for the definitive establishment of the Luciano Sandrone winery.
Thus, the Sandrone company began to work market by market, selecting the best and most consistent partner with its style everywhere, enhancing the characters of its wines and real development expectations. A job that continued with the professional collaboration of Anna Rech, who still handles the export of Sandrone wines.

From “Small Piedmontese producers” to “Langa In”

We do not know if those meetings held at Confcoltivatori and the synergy that gradually consolidated among these small producers were the forerunners of what would happen in the following decades in the wine world of Langa and Roero.
